High Point Fall Market 2015 :: A Really Big Show

High Point Market, those three words sum up a twice yearly migration of design-centric individuals. Where a small, sleepy town in North Carolina metamorphizes into the epicenter of the global design stage. It was the equivalent of “New York Fashion Week,” rather than fashion on human form, furniture & accessories took the runway. The synergy was electric, the excitement palpable. Showrooms were transformed into stunning vignettes that stretched the imagination. For a moment, it was easy to forget you were at the world’s largest furniture market and instead were transported onto the set of a magazine interior photo shoot. Industry notables and design stars breezed past at any given moment combined with hallways lined with eye-catching home goods that covered everything from the floor to the ceiling, literally. This year I traveled with Bloggers from across the US, for the Highpoint Design Bloggers Tour in partnership with Esteem Media. It was an all-access, behind the scenes look at some of the Markets biggest showroom introductions and an opportunity to speak with some of the faces behind the most talked about collections. I’m back from a short blogging break (much needed) in order to go through hundreds of pictures (and soak some very tired feet).

So first I’m going to recap an incredible few days at High Point Fall Market 2015 with some top trends…

1.The Power of Pink-Hints of pink were everywhere, and it’s not just for the Disney© generation. It now translates across all genders and ages. From the slightest whisper of color to bold & bright hues. This market favorite will make you a believer in the power of pink.

2. Glamour-Think of an era defined by cigarette holders, pearls and furs translated into furnishings & accessories. From fluffy ottomans to exotic lacquered woods mixed with chrome, shades of ivory, and sophisticated textures. Timeless.

3. Heavy Metals-Going for the gold? You’re in luck. Gold tones were still part of a market trend, but chrome is quietly making a comeback. In fact, I feel comfortable saying that gold will quietly go out the back door of design, and slowly be replaced with silver toned metals. People crave the glamorous life, and what goes best with glamor? Silver. But, don’t throw out the brass quite yet, mix it up with other metals for an updated look. Mixed metals were, very, very “haute” this year…

4. Flower Power-Florals were blooming everywhere. From Cynthia Rowley’s much talked about collaboration with Hooker furniture to life-size wall art. Botanicals were given an updated twist, and quite frankly who doesn’t love flowers? The very essence of Spring was evident everywhere

5. Drama-Dark on dark. Monochromatic color schemes in shades of browns, blacks, or deep rich blues. This new look has a “sexy, city girl vibe.” Paired with rich golds or shiny chrome. It’s elusive and mysterious, and it’s stunning.

6. Originality-People are craving originality in design or at least the elusion of a “one of a kind” piece. Most collections had standout furnishings with an artistic quality, from unique legs to striking hardware. Terms such as “goat skin parchment” or “spring grass cloth wrapped tables” were bandied about describing material pairings whose effects were positively stunning.

7. Color-What’s hot? Dark dramatic color such as browns, black-blues, or burnt oranges reminiscent of the saturated hue of a signature Hermes′ box. Easter egg pinks and “pastel-y” purples were updated for those who love to push the design envelope.
